Criminal case files ("Treason trials"), 1862.

The case files are all indictments for treason filed in Santa Fe on August 13, 1862, and refer to an unspecified crime that occured the previous March 25, 1862, probably some form of active support by local New Mexcicans for the invading Confederate Army. This date is during the Confederate occupation of Santa Fe and immediately prior to their defeat at Glorieta Pass. Defendants included George J. Madison, Robert Walker, John Phillips, James McFarland, Joseph Foster, William Wilson, Remundus Jones, George Gardenhire, Oscar Holmes, Henry H. Hall, James Boyer, and Charles Cline. Except for the two files relating to Cline and Walker, all case files consist soley of the indictment paper with other case file numbers crossed out. Walker's file also contains subpoenas, while Cline's record has three 1851 arrest warrants for contempt.
